To tell the truth, I have not always seen myself going into
teaching. I used to be headed in a different direction with my college degree
and career. After I finished my Associates of Science degree, I decided to take
some time off from school. Throughout my two years of time I spent working, I
pondered on all the different possible degrees and careers I could go into with
the subjects I loved, mathematics and chemistry. I realized that I didn’t want
to just apply the knowledge I had gained from my education, but I also wanted
to pass my knowledge onto the next generations to come. I have always been good
at and enjoyed math and sciences. After finding what I truly wanted to do with
my life, I decided it was time to go back to college. I want to become a
teacher in order to help the next generations to come learn about math and
chemistry and to hopefully influence them. I don’t want to particularly
influence them toward become a math or chemistry teacher. Rather, I want to
influence them to find the love of learning like many of my teachers did for
me. The field of education combines all the things that I want do in life. It
gives me the chance to still work with math and chemistry, but it also lets me help
other understand those subjects. If I can even help one of my students or be
able to show my students the love of learning, I will have the satisfaction of
knowing that I made a difference in that student’s life or I influenced those
few students. Also, I feel that in the field of education, it is not only the
teacher doing the teaching. I think that while students are learning from
teachers, teachers are also learning from students. I look forward to having the
opportunity to be able to teach others.
